A bidet seat is a toilet seat with built-in wash functions.
The bidet seat runs on electricity and operates by an attached control panel or remote control. Bidet sprays for non-electric seats are activated by hand using a lever or knob.
Electric bidet seats can heat water for a warm water spray. Non-electric bidet seats do not have electrical components to heat water, but some models may be used with a warm water connection to the sink.
A bidet seat may have comfort features such as heated seat, deodorizer, and automatic open and close toilet seat lid.
Bidet seats replace the toilet seat only. It turns the toilet into a bidet toilet without having to install a new toilet. They are therefore less expensive than having to replace the whole toilet with a bidet toilet.
Bidet toilets are most common in Asia, and today, new toilet installations in public spaces and private residences are typically bidet toilet units.
